Woof! Hold the Onions! What Can Dogs NOT Eat?

As loving dog parents, we want to share everything with our furry friends, but some human foods are downright dangerous for them! Knowing what your dog can't eat is crucial for their health and safety.

Top offenders include chocolate (especially dark chocolate!), which contains theobromine, toxic to dogs. Onions and garlic, in any form (powdered, raw, cooked) can damage their red blood cells. Grapes and raisins are another big no-no; even small amounts can cause kidney failure. And while your dog might beg, avocado contains persin, which can cause vomiting and diarrhea.

Other potential hazards are Xylitol (an artificial sweetener found in sugar-free gum and candies), alcohol, and even certain nuts like macadamia. If you suspect your dog has ingested something toxic, contact your veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center immediately. Keeping these foods out of reach and being vigilant can save your dog's life!
