Is That Thrush? Spotting & Treating Oral Thrush in Your Baby

Seeing white patches in your baby's mouth? It might be thrush. Thrush in babies, also known as oral candidiasis, is a common yeast infection that appears as white or creamy lesions on the tongue, inner cheeks, gums, and sometimes the roof of the mouth.

**Symptoms to Watch For:**

* White patches that resemble cottage cheese.
* Difficulty feeding or fussiness during feeding.
* Cracked or sore skin at the corners of the mouth.
* Diaper rash can sometimes accompany oral thrush.

**Treating Thrush:**

Don't worry, thrush is usually easily treatable! Consult your pediatrician. They will likely prescribe an antifungal medication, often in liquid form, to be applied directly to the affected areas. Make sure to complete the entire course of medication, even if the thrush seems to be clearing up. For breastfeeding mothers, antifungal cream may be prescribed for the nipples to prevent re-infection. Sterilize pacifiers and bottle nipples frequently to prevent the spread of yeast. With proper treatment, your baby should be back to their happy, healthy self in no time!
