Feeling a tender lump under your ear? It might be a swollen lymph node. Lymph nodes are small, bean-shaped glands that are part of your immune system. They filter lymph fluid, which contains immune cells that fight infection. When your body is battling something, like a cold or ear infection, the lymph nodes near the affected area can swell.
Why near the ear? Because lymph nodes around your head and neck drain fluid from the ear and surrounding tissues. So, a swollen lymph node in this area often signals a localized issue. Common causes include ear infections, colds, or even minor skin infections on your scalp.
