Uh Oh! Navigating a Stomach Bug During Pregnancy

A stomach bug while pregnant? Not exactly the glowing pregnancy picture you had in mind! Unfortunately, it's a common occurrence. While incredibly unpleasant, most stomach bugs are viral and usually resolve on their own within a few days.

The biggest concern during a stomach bug is dehydration. Vomiting and diarrhea can quickly deplete fluids crucial for both you and your baby. Sip on clear liquids like water, broth, or electrolyte solutions. Avoid sugary drinks, as they can sometimes worsen diarrhea.

Rest is also vital. Let your body focus on fighting off the virus. Try to eat small, bland meals if you can tolerate them. Think crackers, toast, or plain rice.

When should you worry? Contact your doctor immediately if you experience: high fever, severe abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea, decreased fetal movement, or persistent vomiting and inability to keep down fluids. They can assess your situation and ensure both you and your baby are safe and sound. Hang in there, mama! This too shall pass.
