LSIL: Understanding Your Diagnosis

Received an LSIL result on your Pap smear? It can sound scary, but it's more common than you think. LSIL stands for Low-Grade Squamous Intraepithelial Lesion. Essentially, it means there are mild changes in the cells of your cervix.

These changes are often caused by a human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. In many cases, LSIL resolves on its own as your immune system clears the HPV.

What happens next? Your doctor will likely recommend a follow-up Pap smear in a year, or possibly a colposcopy (a closer look at the cervix with a special microscope). The best course of action depends on your age, medical history, and other factors.

Don't panic! LSIL is usually not cancerous and often goes away without treatment. Open communication with your doctor is key to understanding your specific situation and following the recommended monitoring or treatment plan.
