Ouch! Ingrown Toenail Self-Care: Simple Steps for Sweet Relief

That throbbing pain in your toe? It might be an ingrown toenail. But don't panic! Often, you can find relief with effective self-care.

First, soak your foot in warm water with Epsom salts for 15-20 minutes several times a day. This softens the skin and can reduce inflammation. Gently try to lift the corner of the nail and place a small piece of cotton or dental floss underneath to encourage it to grow outwards, away from the skin.

Keep the area clean and dry, applying an antibiotic ointment and covering it with a bandage. Wear comfortable, roomy shoes and avoid tight socks. Pain relievers like ibuprofen can help manage the discomfort.

If your ingrown toenail shows signs of infection (increased redness, pus, or severe pain), or if self-care doesn't improve the situation within a week, it's time to see a doctor or podiatrist. They can provide professional treatment to get you back on your feet, pain-free! Don't let an ingrown toenail sideline you – take action!
