Thinking about tackling a DIY car repair or storing your vehicle long-term? Knowing how to disconnect your car battery is a vital skill. Don't worry, it's easier than you think!
First, gather your gear: you'll need a wrench (usually 10mm), safety glasses, and gloves. Safety first!
Now, the fun part. Pop the hood and locate your battery. Identify the negative (-) and positive (+) terminals. Always disconnect the negative terminal FIRST. This prevents accidental short circuits. Loosen the nut on the negative terminal clamp with your wrench and gently wiggle the clamp off. Tuck it away so it can't accidentally touch the terminal. Repeat the process for the positive terminal.
And that's it! Your battery is safely disconnected. Remember to reconnect the positive terminal first, then the negative, when you're ready to re-energize your ride. Stay safe, and happy wrenching!
