Feeling that familiar burn? Asking yourself, "How DO you get a UTI?!" You're not alone! Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) are super common, especially among women, but men can get them too. So, what's the deal?
Usually, bacteria, often E. coli from your digestive system, finds its way into your urethra. For women, the shorter urethra makes this journey easier. But there are other culprits! Poor hygiene (wiping back to front!), dehydration, sexual activity, and even certain birth control methods can increase your risk.
But don't despair! Prevention is key. Drink plenty of water to flush out bacteria. Wipe front to back. Urinate after sex. Avoid holding it in. Consider cranberry juice (though research is mixed!). If you think you have a UTI, see a doctor. Left untreated, they can become more serious. Now go forth and hydrate!
