Ouch! Why Does My Hip Hurt When I Sit?

Hip pain when sitting can really cramp your style! It's a common complaint, and the causes are surprisingly varied. Sometimes, it's simply prolonged sitting compressing the muscles and nerves around your hip joint. Other times, underlying conditions like bursitis (inflammation of the fluid-filled sacs cushioning your hip), arthritis, or even referred pain from your lower back could be to blame.

So, what can you do about it? First, pay attention to your posture. Slouching puts extra pressure on your hips. Try sitting with good back support and both feet flat on the floor. Take frequent breaks to stand up and stretch – even a quick walk around the room helps. Consider using a cushion designed for hip pain to alleviate pressure. If the pain persists or worsens, don't hesitate to see a doctor or physical therapist. They can properly diagnose the cause and recommend the best treatment plan to get you sitting comfortably again!
