Is That Heat Rash on My Baby? Spotting and Soothing the Summer Itch

Summer sunshine is wonderful, but for babies, it can sometimes bring an unwelcome visitor: heat rash! Also known as prickly heat or miliaria, heat rash baby typically appears as tiny red or pink bumps on areas prone to sweating, like the neck, chest, diaper area, and armpits.

But how do you know it's *really* heat rash? Look for clusters of small, raised bumps that may feel slightly itchy or prickly. Unlike some other rashes, heat rash isn't usually painful. It's caused by blocked sweat ducts, trapping sweat under the skin.

Thankfully, heat rash is usually harmless and resolves on its own. Keeping your baby cool and dry is key! Dress them in loose, breathable clothing, avoid overheating, and keep their skin clean. Cool baths can also provide relief. If the rash worsens, becomes infected, or your baby seems uncomfortable, consult your pediatrician.
