Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) can be a real worry for parents. It's a common viral illness, especially among young children, characterized by fever, sore throat, and a rash. The telltale signs? Small, painful blisters often appear on the hands, feet, and inside the mouth.
While HFMD is highly contagious, spreading through close contact, respiratory droplets, and contaminated surfaces, it's usually not serious. Most cases resolve within 7-10 days with plenty of rest, fluids, and over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen for fever and discomfort.
To prevent the spread, frequent handwashing is key! Also, disinfect toys and surfaces. If your child develops symptoms, consult your pediatrician for diagnosis and management advice. Remember, while uncomfortable, HFMD is generally a mild and self-limiting illness.
