Feeling like you're constantly on a tilt-a-whirl? Dizziness during pregnancy is surprisingly common, but that doesn't make it any less concerning. So, why does it happen, and what can you do about it?
The main culprit is often hormonal changes. Increased progesterone relaxes your blood vessels, leading to lower blood pressure. This, coupled with your growing uterus putting pressure on blood vessels, can reduce blood flow to your brain, causing dizziness.
Low blood sugar and dehydration can also play a role. Make sure you're eating frequent, small meals and staying hydrated throughout the day. Avoid standing for long periods, and when you feel dizzy, sit or lie down immediately. Slowly transition from lying to sitting, and from sitting to standing.
While most dizziness is harmless, it's always best to chat with your doctor or midwife. They can rule out any underlying issues and provide personalized advice for managing those dizzy spells. Remember, you're growing a human – a little dizziness is a small price to pay for the incredible journey you're on!
