Period Predicament: Can You REALLY Get Pregnant While Menstruating?

Thinking you're in the clear for baby-making during your period? Think again! While it's less likely, the answer to 'can you get pregnant on your period?' isn't a flat-out no. Here's the deal:

Sperm can survive inside the female reproductive tract for up to five days. So, if you have a short menstrual cycle and ovulate soon after your period ends, those little swimmers might just be waiting around when that egg drops.

Also, tracking your cycle isn't foolproof. Cycle lengths can vary, making it tricky to pinpoint your exact ovulation date. Plus, spotting, which can be mistaken for a period, might actually be ovulation bleeding.

Bottom line: While the risk is lower, using protection is always the best way to prevent unwanted pregnancy, regardless of where you are in your cycle. When in doubt, chat with your OB-GYN for personalized advice!
