Uh Oh, Waterfall Alert! Why Is My Baby Spitting Up So Much?

Is your little one suddenly a spitting machine? Seeing your baby spit up frequently can be alarming, but it's often perfectly normal! Let's explore why babies spit up and what you can do.

**Why the Spout?** Several factors contribute to spitting up. Babies have immature digestive systems, and the muscle between the esophagus and stomach (the lower esophageal sphincter) isn't fully developed. This allows stomach contents to easily flow back up. Overfeeding, gas, and certain feeding positions can also play a role.

**What Can You Do?** First, don't panic! Try smaller, more frequent feedings. Burp your baby often, especially during and after feeds. Keep your baby upright for about 30 minutes after feeding. Gently play with them, and try to avoid rigorous activity immediately following a meal. In most cases, frequent spitting up resolves as your baby's digestive system matures. However, if your baby is spitting up forcefully, refusing feeds, not gaining weight, or showing other signs of distress, contact your pediatrician immediately to rule out any underlying medical conditions. They can provide personalized guidance and ensure your little one is thriving!
