39 Weeks Pregnant: The Home Stretch! What to Expect As Baby's Arrival Nears

Congratulations, mama! You've reached 39 weeks pregnant – the official home stretch! Baby could arrive any day now. At this stage, baby is considered full-term and is likely around 7-7.5 pounds and about 20 inches long. They're continuing to refine their reflexes and fatten up for life outside the womb.

What can you expect this week? Braxton Hicks contractions might become more frequent and intense. Pay attention to the difference between these practice contractions and true labor. True labor contractions will become progressively stronger, longer, and closer together.

Other common symptoms include continued fatigue, pelvic pressure, back pain, and increased vaginal discharge. Losing your mucus plug is another sign labor might be approaching, though it can still be days or even weeks away.

Remember to stay hydrated, continue gentle exercise, and focus on relaxation techniques. Have your hospital bag packed and know your route to the hospital. Most importantly, listen to your body and contact your healthcare provider with any concerns. You're almost there – you've got this!
