38 Weeks Pregnant: The Home Stretch! What's Happening Now?

Congratulations, you're 38 weeks pregnant! You're officially in the home stretch, and baby could arrive any day now. Excitement and anticipation are probably at an all-time high, and that's perfectly normal.

So, what can you expect this week? Your baby is likely around the size of a large cantaloupe and gaining about half a pound per week. They're continuing to refine their systems and build up fat stores for life outside the womb.

You might be experiencing increased Braxton Hicks contractions, feeling more pressure in your pelvis, and maybe even noticing your 'mucus plug' coming away (or noticing increased discharge). These are all signs that your body is preparing for labor. Fatigue is also common at this stage, so listen to your body and rest when you need to.

Continue monitoring your baby's movements, and contact your doctor or midwife immediately if you notice any significant changes or have any concerns. Pack your hospital bag (if you haven't already!) and practice those relaxation techniques. You're almost there! Focus on self-care, and get ready to meet your little one. Good luck!
