Is Your Cat Acting Strange? Spotting Rabies Symptoms in Cats

Rabies is a terrifying disease, and recognizing the symptoms in cats is crucial for their safety and yours. While vaccination is highly effective, understanding the warning signs can save lives.

The initial stage, the **prodromal phase**, may show subtle changes like fever, anxiety, or a change in personality. Cats might become withdrawn or unusually affectionate.

Next comes the **furious phase**. This is the most recognized stage, characterized by aggression, biting, hissing, and restlessness. Cats might exhibit disorientation, seizures, and excessive drooling.

Finally, the **paralytic (or dumb) phase** leads to paralysis, starting in the throat and spreading throughout the body. This makes it difficult for the cat to swallow, causing excessive drooling. Eventually, paralysis leads to respiratory failure and death.

If you suspect your cat has rabies, **immediately contact your veterinarian and local animal control**. Do not approach or handle the animal. Early detection and proper action are vital in managing this deadly disease.
