Think your cat's harmless scratch is *just* a scratch? Think again! While usually not serious, sometimes a feline friend's affection can lead to Cat-Scratch Disease (CSD), also known as cat-scratch fever. It's caused by bacteria called *Bartonella henselae*, often transmitted through a scratch or bite.
So, how do you know if you've caught CSD?
Watch out for these key symptoms:
* **A small bump or blister** at the site of the scratch or bite.
* **Swollen and tender lymph nodes,** especially near the head, neck, or armpits.
* **Fatigue** and general malaise.
* **Fever** (usually mild).
* **Headache.**
Less common symptoms include: loss of appetite, joint pain, and a rash.
If you suspect you have CSD, especially if symptoms worsen, consult a doctor. While often resolving on its own, treatment with antibiotics may be necessary. Enjoy your cuddly companion, but remember to practice good hygiene and wash scratches and bites thoroughly!
